In the misty hollows of Smoky Summit, Appalachia, traveling nurse Melissa Parker arrives at the riverbank clinic to combat a brutal flu outbreak, her nomadic life a shield against the grief of a family fractured by loss and endless goodbyes. Local ferry operator Jonathan Reed, haunted by his grandmother's untold tales of tragedy and his own fear of failing to honor the town's vanishing heritage, operates the last remnants of a forgotten crossing, his days marked by isolation and quiet defeat.
