Description
Years after fleeing Destin, Sophie Carter returns for a real estate conference, intending to stay invisible. Her hotel balcony overlooks the harbor bar where Mark Davis plays guitar nightly, pulling her back to the place and the man she left behind ten years ago.
What begins as a reluctant visit turns into an unscheduled forty-eight hours when her keynote is delayed. Morning walks along the docks lead to coffee on the boat Second Chance, shared memories of beach bonfires, and conversations about why she ran and why he stayed. A tropical squall strands her on his boat, and an old lighthouse becomes the setting for the first kiss that bridges the decade between them.
Sophie must choose between a lucrative development deal that would destroy the harbor and protecting the life Mark built. When Mark discovers the developer’s card, trust fractures, forcing her to use her expertise to preserve the harbor’s heritage status instead.
As festival lights illuminate the water and the boat parade stalls in the harbor, Sophie confronts the burnout of her city career and the roots she abandoned. Mark admits he never stopped waiting. Together they navigate engine failure, town council hearings, and the decision to turn the Second Chance into a permanent music venue.
In the glow of the harbor light, Sophie resigns from her firm, opens a preservation real estate office, and moves her bags onto the boat—now renamed Our Second Chance. The past is forgiven, the future is anchored, and she is finally home.
