Embers of the Valley

In 1861 Tennessee, widowed farmwoman Mara Collins tends the scarred land left after early skirmishes. When rumors of Confederate deserters spread through the valley, she discovers an injured soldier hiding in her barn and makes the dangerous choice to let him stay.

Caleb Turner begs for mercy, and Mara’s reluctant agreement draws Union patrols to her door. She lies to protect him while occupation tightens around the valley, forcing both of them into hiding and testing the fragile trust growing between them.

As Caleb’s past and Mara’s grief surface, their emotional distance becomes impossible to maintain. A fevered night, a neighbor’s betrayal, and increasing searches push them toward a desperate plan to flee before the valley is sealed.

Together they cross into Confederate-held territory, leaving the ashes of Mara’s old life behind. What remains is the promise of a future built not on land or loyalty, but on each other.
