Description
Angela Reed arrives at the Brooks Outback Ranch with little more than a suitcase and the hope of outrunning her grief. Widowed and adrift, she expects hard work; she doesn’t expect Matthew Brooks. The quiet rancher meets her with guarded eyes and a handshake that ends almost before it begins, still raw from the loss of his wife and daughter.
As Angela learns the rhythms of the land—saddling horses at dawn, mending fences under a brutal sun—small cracks appear in Matthew’s armor. Storms drive them into the shelter of the barn, a wild brumby forces them heart-to-heart, and long days repairing the ranch slowly knit two broken people together. Yet the past is never far; trespassers threaten the property, and old fears threaten to pull Matthew back into silence.
When danger forces them to stand side by side, Angela must decide whether she is willing to risk her heart again—and whether Matthew can finally open his. In the vast red heart of the outback, two survivors discover that love doesn’t erase what’s lost; it simply asks them to choose life again.
