Description
Princess Lyria awakens to the final preparations for her arranged marriage to a foreign prince she does not want. The palace fills with dignitaries as alliances close around her, and her mother reminds her that duty requires she secure the realm through this unwanted union.
Unable to face the ceremony, Lyria slips into the hidden passages beneath the palace. There she encounters a wounded rebel scout. In exchange for her silence, he reveals that her betrothed plans to seize Varenburg. Lyria’s decision to meet the rebel again draws her deeper into a web of court spies, poisoned goblets, and a prince whose cruelty becomes impossible to ignore.
Together they uncover a map proving the invasion and flee the palace with guards in pursuit. When the prince blocks their escape and the rebel is captured, Lyria is imprisoned. She breaks free, frees the rebel from the dungeon, and confronts the prince in the great hall, presenting the evidence that turns the court against him.
With the prince overthrown, Lyria refuses to return to the old ways. Border nobles ask her to lead a defensive coalition, and the rebel scout pledges to stand beside her. As the first sparks of war ignite, Lyria steps into her power and prepares to ride out at dawn.
