Description
In the spring of 1866, Confederate soldier Caleb Harrington returns to the ruins of his family’s Virginia plantation only to discover that the war has taken everything—except the faint hope of rebuilding what remains.
The woman he once courted, Lydia Beaumont, is now engaged to another man, and the land that once sustained his family lies scorched and fallow. Yet Caleb cannot turn away. Bound by duty to the place he still calls home, he begins the slow work of restoring the fields while facing the deeper task of mending a heart that never truly stopped loving Lydia.
As old promises and new obligations collide, Caleb and Lydia must confront the wounds left by war, the weight of forgiveness, and the question of whether love can grow again from ashes.
