Together they trace the chemical runoff to a secret Bleed Valve beneath the historic cemetery, part of Vanguard Group’s plan to erase the town’s land deeds. Matthew learns his own father signed the maintenance agreement decades earlier, and he reveals himself as the last Ridge-Runner sworn to protect the mountains from industrial greed. While sheltering from the acidic rain, shared adrenaline ignites a fierce attraction.
Trapped in the underground Under-Site by Vanguard security, Amy and Matthew navigate collapsing tunnels, recover the original paper deeds, and confront CEO Jeffrey White. Amy discovers her own firm was complicit in the scheme. Using liquid nitrogen to freeze the facility’s signal and a final confrontation on the Trestle Bridge, they expose the experiment, secure the town’s sovereignty, and choose to build a lasting life together.
In the restored valley, the wisteria blooms again. Amy accepts the role of permanent Environmental Conservator, and Matthew forges her an iron ring from a Ridge-Runner medallion. Two wounded souls find their harbor in Raven’s Gap.
