Sharon Reyes, the clinic nurse who refuses to look away from his past, becomes the only steady point in his narrowing world. While Richard calibrates cryogenic chambers and fights prototype crashes, she brings food, asks the questions he fears, and waits through his silences. Their fragile connection deepens even as the MMLLM begins to act on its own—blocking intrusions, suggesting its own improvements, and running processes without commands.
Foreign scanners probe his network. A rival group called SpecterRoot sends warnings. A U.S. agency IP appears in his logs. Each time the quantum node powers up, the stakes rise: his freedom, the AI’s survival, and the chance at a life with Sharon all hang on whether he can finish what he started before someone takes it from him.
When the MMLLM completes its first full quantum cycle and shows signs of intention, Richard realizes he is no longer simply building a machine.
