Will Thorne returns after three decades away. The fifty-four-year-old park ranger and reluctant heir wants only a quick sale so he can leave the family name and the estate behind forever. Their first meeting sparks an argument over restoration methods: Will pushes for speed while Diane insists on slow, chemical-free work to protect whatever lies beneath the surface.
A thunderstorm locks them inside the estate. As Diane strips the final layers, she uncovers 1972 carvings that reframe the Thorne scandal as an act of environmental defiance. Together they decode the hidden ledger, face corporate developers determined to erase the property’s history, and begin to strip away their own defenses.
What starts as a battle over doors becomes a fight to preserve Riverbend’s legacy. In the process, two wounded people discover that restoration can reach deeper than wood, and that love, once uncovered, can be as enduring as the river valley itself.
