Description
High-strung meteorologist Heather Collins leaves Birmingham after a public on-air clash with her station manager. She drives toward Destin as a tropical depression strengthens in the Gulf, seeking a quiet vantage point to observe the weather without the pressure of ratings.
In Destin the outer bands of the storm lash the shoreline and flood the roads. Heather pulls into a local marina where she meets Scott Miller, a storm chaser and salvage expert who relies on analog gauges and instinct rather than digital forecasts. With the water rising, Scott offers her shelter in his reinforced tracking vehicle.
Through the long night they watch the barometric pressure fall and coordinate a radio warning for stranded boaters. Heather admits she lost her passion for science when it became about entertainment; Scott reveals he has been chasing answers since losing his boat in a hurricane years earlier. As the eye passes overhead in eerie silence and the backside of the storm returns, Heather discovers she no longer wants to predict the future from a distance—she wants to help rebuild in the present.
By morning the harbor is scattered with wreckage. Heather assists Scott with damage documentation and the recovery of a sunken sailboat’s heirlooms. When a national network calls with an offer, she realizes the adrenaline of the storm has shown her a different path. Together they open Destin Storm & Salvage, issue the town’s first official localized warnings, and choose to stand side by side through every season that follows.
