Description
When former mayor John Taylor is found dead and the scene staged to look like natural causes, the quiet rhythms of the town are shattered by the return of a buried 1990s scandal. Jennifer, busy at her sweet tea stand during election season, soon notices the first signs that someone is determined to keep the past silent.
A discarded typewriter ribbon, a missing manuscript, and an old photograph pull Jennifer into the long shadow of Project 1994—an illegal toxic-waste scheme disguised as a park renovation. With investigative reporter Sandra Lopez at her side, Jennifer follows a trail of ransacked archives, forced-open safes, and soil samples that glow under UV light, exposing names that reach beyond the county line.
As threats mount and her supply truck’s brakes fail, Jennifer refuses to back down. She and her friends race to recover the hidden manuscript before the conspiracy’s “cleaner” can erase the final evidence. The stakes turn lethal when the trail leads to the lighthouse in the middle of a storm.
In the end, the truth surfaces, the guilty are unmasked, and the town begins the slow work of cleaning up both the land and its legacy. But one cryptic note suggests the lighthouse was not the only place with a hidden room.
