Description
Gavin McClain begins each morning among the gears and belts of the old millworks, keeping the machinery that sustains Locust Hill running. When rumors of deliberate damage spread and a stranger is found studying equipment she should never have seen, suspicion falls fast on the outsider who calls herself Isla Trent.
Isla claims she is only a mechanical engineer passing through, yet she carries schematics of the mill and knowledge of a saboteur who has followed her from job to job. Gavin’s instinct is to protect his family’s legacy, but every repaired bolt and loosened coupling draws them deeper into a shared fight neither can finish alone.
Old enemies resurface, the Braddocks warn her away, and the McClains debate whether the mill can survive the changes Isla’s methods demand. As explosions rock the night shift and accusations fly, Gavin must decide whether trust is worth the risk of losing everything the town depends upon.
In the quiet after the final confrontation, the saboteur’s flight leaves the millworks damaged but standing. Gavin and Isla choose each other over fear, beginning repairs under new oversight while the McClain family slowly accepts the woman who helped save their heritage.
A single symbol left on the recovered schematic hints that the threat to the McClain legacy has not ended.
