The Pier Runner of Destin

Description

Lori Walker arrives in Destin still limping from a torn ligament and the wreckage of a broken engagement. Unable to train for the race that was meant to define her, she begins walking the Destin pier at dawn, each step an attempt to outrun the silence she has avoided for years.

There she meets Mark Davis, a local physical therapist whose calm presence and steady observations cut through her urgency. What begins as reluctant treatment sessions becomes a weekend of slowed movement, shared silences on the boards, and conversations that force Lori to examine why she has always chosen speed over stillness.

As the tide turns beneath the pier and the pressure of her old life calls from afar, Lori must decide whether to return to the race she planned or accept the quieter rhythm Mark offers—one that values presence over finish lines.

In the salt air and soft light of the Gulf, she learns that healing is not about returning to who she was, but about discovering who she can become when she finally stops running.
