Description
Hannah McClain opens her door to a quiet stranger who claims to be a writer seeking solitude after the storm. She soon discovers his hidden notes reveal a far more dangerous purpose: he is investigating the radical preacher who is systematically turning neighbor against neighbor across Locust Hill.
As suspicion mounts and the preacher’s influence grows, the fragile peace between the McClain and Braddock families begins to crack. Old land agreements surface, patrols tighten, and every conversation carries the weight of possible betrayal. Hannah finds herself caught between protecting the man she has sheltered and the community she has always known.
With the town dividing and accusations flying, Hannah must decide how much she is willing to risk to bring the truth into the light. The preacher’s power depends on silence; exposing him could cost her home, her safety, and the fragile new connection forming in the midst of chaos.
Set against the backdrop of environmental ruin and deepening social fractures, this story explores the cost of loyalty, the pull of forbidden trust, and the courage required to stand against manipulation.
