Description
Clara Miller returns to Coral Bay for her twenty-fifth high school reunion, expecting only memories and a few awkward conversations. Instead she finds Mark Owens still in town, now the local fire chief, a man of steady duty and few words who never married and never left.
When a string of small fires begins to threaten the historic boardwalk, Clara and Mark are forced to work together. She photographs the damage while he leads the response, and the old pull between them grows stronger with every late-night conversation and shared cup of coffee.
Twenty years after she left for her career, Clara must decide whether the life she built elsewhere is worth more than the quiet strength of the man who waited without asking her to stay. Mark, in turn, must risk opening the heart he has protected since the day she drove away.
Together they confront suspicious fires, buried regrets, and the simple truth that some flames never die—they only wait for the right moment to burn again.
